The Elizabeth River has long been a part of our country's history, dating before the first Native American villages were sighted on it's banks by Captain John Smith during his 1608 discovery journey - land grants followed on both sides of the Western Branch tributary. Plantations, farms, and the maritime industry brought people who thrived in the River's environment. Founded in 1752, Portsmouth has secured a significant place in shaping our nations's history, from the Revolution to the Civil War - and it remains an important modern seaport and beautiful place to call home today. This Tour showcases the riverbank neighborhoods of Glensheallah, Green Acres, and Sterling Point, providing visitors with access to six private properties located on land first noted in written records in 1608,.
